ABOUT ME

Passionate explorer and creatrix

Super Powers : Enhanced curiosity, supreme optimist, willing collaborator and determined problem solver.

Fee_TealOct2019_square.jpg

I am a creative all-sort and a professional problem solver who likes nothing more than to figure out why people do what they do and then to harness the power of co-design to improve upon those experiences. I will work with you to design the right solution for the right problem whether it is people, process, product, technology or any combination of delivery solution.

My real jam is in the early problem identification space and I love to harness various methods of research and investigation (just like a detective) to identify/validate the real problems so we can then progress to designing the right solutions. While I have process in the way I work, I don't believe in process for process sake and will adapt activities and deliverables to suit my situation in order to do "just enough" to deliver the best outcome.

Having discovered what I wanted to be when I grew up around 12 years ago, I made a career shift into the world of Human Centred Design (User/Customer Experience, Service Design and Design Thinking)  and haven't looked back. I combine my passion for putting people at the centre of my process with my many years of experience in Project and Change Management, Business Analysis, Stakeholder Management and IT Service Management to offer a professional experience that is wholistic and unique.

I am capable of working as a solo designer but also love to work alongside other designers and enjoy coaching and mentoring team members to educate them on human centric design practices and the importance of understanding the ACTUAL experience vs making assumptions.

When not working to solve problems with amazing solutions, I can be found kayaking, dancing, making jewellery, travelling, taking photos on 45 degree angles and otherwise exploring this wonderful, diverse world with my lifelong partner in crime, Brad.

EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS

Projects of interest

USER EXPERIENCE SPECIALIST : Portable

2024

I successfully worked with Digital Twin Victoria to design and deliver the user interface for a 3D Model editing widget with developers (of another vendor partner) based in Perth. This widget permits users to import, place and manipulate 3D models directly into the Digital Twin Victoria's 3D maps to inform decision making for many applications including urban design and development, travel infrastructure planning and 3D visualisation of regional environments.

I also successfully worked with Equivant (USA) to improve the user experience on their E-services (court management and services) product. The E-services product is used across 300+ courts in the USA and is also by the Supreme Court of Victoria.

As this was primarily a refresh of the UI, I performed a UX review on the current system, providing key areas of focus for immediate improvement as well as longer term improvements that could be made when they upgrade the technology stack. From this I worked with the stakeholders to develop a clear style guide and then identified key user flows to inform the redesign of the UI. From there I developed wireframes and high fidelity mock-ups alongside a new design system which provided key components for the developers to use in restyling the UI.

LEAD UX DESIGNER : Emesent - 3D Mapping, Drone and Analysis technologies

2023-24

I was the Lead UX Designer with a graduate UX Designer reporting to me.

I led the UX and UI design for the Commander application (Mapping, Drone and Autonomy) which permits the active 3D mapping and visualisation of environments. I worked closely with the Product Manager, Product owner and development team daily to design improvements and new features to the product.

I worked with internal stakeholders and conducted research directly with users to map experiences (eg: Stope Mapping) that fed into the program of work for improving existing products and identifying areas for innovation. Contributing to the design and release of an Autonomous Stope Mapping solution in 2024.

SENIOR PRODUCT DESIGNER : SYNTH MAPS - 3D Geo Spatial Mapping & Digital Twin analysis tool

2023

I was responsible for the end to end user experience for the use of Synth Maps. This is a 3D Geo Mapping & Digital Twin analysis tool that is targeted to make complex 3D data accessible and usable to anyone rather than just the geo-spatial experts.

My duties included:

  • Conducting user/stakeholder workshops and research to develop an understanding of the requirements, collaboratively sketching concept designs and working in partnership with the Project Manager/Product Owner to prioritise these requirements.

  • Sketching concept user flows and wireframes and in consultation with developers collaboratively design the UI for development and delivery.

  • Running follow-up usability sessions with new users to provide feedback and understanding of real world experience to inform future design and development.

  • Supporting the Product Owner with quality checking and acceptance tests on developed features.

UX DESIGNER : SUNCORP WORKPLACE PLATFORM - Smart building operations applications

2021

Working closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts and  Developers, I was the Senior UX Designer leading the design activity on various new features of the web application, mobile application and building kiosks for the new Suncorp HQ in Brisbane at 800 Ann st.  Features included Booking Desks, Rooms and lockers along with locating the various services in the building. Documenting the user journeys via wire flows, high fidelity design and conducting usability testing to validate the usability of the designed features. We also created a Design System for utilisation in the ongoing design and development process for later features.

UX DESIGNER : MOCO FOOD SERVICES - ORDERING PLATFORM (E-commerce)

2019-2022

Working alongside the Product Owner, Developers and in regular consultation with customers, I am responsible for multiple and ongoing designs of various new features for the MOCO Food Ordering apps (web & mobile).  I design sketched userflows, conduct usability testing to validate and iterate and then progress to high fidelity designs. As MOCO is committed to superior customer experience with their customers, we always test with actual MOCO customers to validate the usability and iterate on designs as required. Features that I have redesigned include the signup and onboarding flow process, creating a price discounting solution and designing an in house loyalty scheme.

UX DESIGNER : SUNCORP MARKETPLACE APP

2018

Working closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts and  Developers, I was responsible for designing various new features of the Suncorp Marketplace mobile app released in July 2018. Documenting the user journeys via wire flows for the Future and Recurring Payments, New Payments Platform (NPP) and various other features. I also conducted usability testing to validate the usability of various other designed features.

DESIGN LEAD & UX DESIGNER - DVA HIGHRES WEBSITE

2017

Re-engaged (I had also led Phase 1) to lead the Design component of the Phase 2 project, I designed and led extensive user research and co-design sessions to identify recommendations for improvements based on user and stakeholder input. I then led the redesign of the website based on the recommendations through wire-framing, prototyping, user testing and visual design of the new entry to the website.

UX DESIGNER - QLDTRAFFIC.QLD.GOV.AU

2016

Working on the new generation QLDTraffic.qld.gov.au website, I was part of a flexible design team that designed the user flows, information architecture and early visual design concepts for the BETA website. Through wire-framing, prototyping and conducting user testing to deliver the first generation design concepts to the build project team. Post release, I worked with the client to refresh and refine the UI functionality and visual design by producing iterative high resolution mock-ups. It was successfully released in early 2017.

I also visually designed the internal Event Publishing System (EPS) that TMR staff use to enter and update traffic events that are then published onto the QLDTraffic.qld.gov.au website.
